My favorite marketing guru in the world is Seth Godin. With his innovative thinking and analogies, he is truly one of the most talented business writers on the planet. He has written a slew of books all based on the sociology and psychology of buying, marketing, and business. I heard that Purple Cow was one of the most influential books of Jay-Z’s career. Jay-Z, being one of my favorite artists ever, I felt compelled to read the book.
The book Purple Cow is all about making your business remarkable. The premise of the book is to do things differently, and find a way to stand out. When the rest of the world zigs, zag. That is about it. It gives you loads of “case studies” and examples of other businesses doing so. But, honestly, I feel like if you need dozens of ideas on how to stand out, your odds of standing out are slim.
If you need ideas, read the book. But the idea is the easy part when it comes to the world of business. So if you are even struggling with ideas, you should probably either not get into entrepreneurship, or spend your money hiring creative people to work for you, and not on this book.
